Flyzone SkyFly Electric RTF Overview

I was thinking that maybe I should bring my nephew over to the dark side with me, and teach him about this wonderful hobby. Giving him an RC car from RadioShack wouldn't exactly be bringing him over, so the only other thing that came to mind was FlyZone's SkyFly RTF. The assembly would turn him off, even though it can be done in minutes. But the actual time using the plane would be a completely different story.

The controller can seem a bit daunting to the beginner, but has an expert and a beginner mode to ease them in. The instructional DVD that is included might not get watched right away like it should, but the included content doesn't really add anything special to the actual flying of the plane... The rechargeable NiMH battery is accompanied by 12v DC peak charger and an AC adapter, meaning that once you're outside you can stay out and play until you're ready to go home.

The SkyFly includes separate rudder and elevator controls, which is a plus and minus since this is for the beginner. In beginner mode these extra controls will be auto adjusted, but not to the extent where you can change a miraculous death dive into a picture perfect landing. After a few possible crashes, users may get the hang of it all. The motor is 380 in size and may be a bit powerful for some, especially if they haven't at least focused on the more important parts of the controller.

Besides the remote needing 8x AA batteries, you are set to go right out of the box after some quick assembly. The brand name may not be favorable for those who purchase higher end models, but this isn't meant to be a chest thumping beast of a plane-it was built for beginners. Priced at $99, it really doesn't have a lot of competition.
