Spektrum Receiver Firmware Update Available

Spektrum has announced a firmware update program for their line of DSM2 spread spectrum receivers. The upgrade adds what they are calling QuickConnect, which decreases the amount of time the receiver takes to start reacting to transmitter commands after a loss of power. This is meant to address temporary voltage drops often caused by digital servos. The Spektrum website has details on the program, which requires users to send in their receivers.

Our take: On one hand, Spektrum deserves credit for listening to customers, admitting there was a problem, and fixing it. No doubt these voltage drops and the crashes which ensued were often due to pilots overtaxing the BECs in their speed controllers. On the other hand, shipping a receiver which can take up to five seconds to get back on the air was a mistake. It also seems a bit disingenuous to call this a feature instead of a bug fix. Whether you've experienced the problem or not, we encourage all users to send in their receivers and get this new firmware update. It's safer and it might save you a lot of money.
