If you've never been to a radio control show, you're missing out. There are a number of annual shows like the NEAT Fair in New York and SEFF in Georgia which have an enormous variety of models, vendors, and activities, and give any AMA-registered pilot the opportunity to fly too. You can buy DVDs of last year's NEAT FAir or SEFF 2008 from SKS Video Productions to get a taste of what it's like to go. There are also conventions to attend like the WRAM Show, which is all about shopping instead of flying.

In July Zero RC will be attending the SCCMAS Airshow in Santa Clara, California. If you live in the area, come check it out!

The 40th annual WRAM Show took place in White Plains, New York this weekend. Organized by the Westchester Radio Aero Modelers, the show draws a crowd from all over the Northeast U.S. This year a major snow storm hit Friday morning, the first day of the show. While this led to several vendors not showing up, most of the big names were there, and audience traffic on Saturday was dense.

Not too long ago HPI announced the release of their Wheely King two wheel drive 1/12th scale monster truck. Many people became aroused by this, and once it was released, the truck became a huge hit. Soon after, it was becoming obvious that people really wanted a four wheel drive version of the truck. Although the two wheel drive version was exceptional, people started to seek less of the "Wheely" factor and more of the "King". HPI responded quickly, and soon after released a 1/12th scale Wheely King that was a 4X4! The RC community was very pleased, and the truck went flying off the shelves. With the refreshed demand for the Wheely King, it will forever be remembered as a hit RC product.

New Era Models is famous for making awesome conversions for all kinds of cars, whether it's the Twin Engine Savage kit, the .46 Conversion for the LST2, or the 1/4 scale kit also for the Savage. Now New Era has come out with another kit that looks pretty interesting, the HPI Firestorm Big Block.

Perhaps the main problem with Lithium-Polymer batteries (other than their tendency to explode when damaged) is the lack of a standard for their balance connectors. This limits which chargers and balancers you can use with a given pack. To address this, Evan at RC Accessory has put together a great list of which brands comply with the four different variations out there in the wild. Check out his Balance Tap Configuration Guide for the details, and remember that some brands using identical connectors have the polarity reversed. Good grief!

While on the subject of RCX, I discovered a video on YouTube of a Nitro RC Boat at last years (2006) RC Expo. It's a pretty poor quality video, and could probably do with being half the length, but I was amazed as how fast this thing could accelerate. I wonder how it would go in choppier waters.
